We model the gospel to the culture in which we operate. This is obvious in cross-cultural settings when the idea and reality of culture is unavoidable. However, when we are operating in our native culture we may forget that the gospel stands apart from and above it.
How we relate to, engage, and challenge our culture matters because our culture needs to a clear witness to the gospel. In this way we all become "cross-cultural missionaries," for everyone who is in Christ has embraced a new citizenship and received the role of ambassador.
Where does the gospel come into conflict with your culture? It is there you must humbly confront. Where does the gospel affirm your culture? Is it there you must build bridges.
